Erich H. Strassner is Associate Director for Industry Economics at the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA).

In his role as Associate Director, Mr. Strassner oversees the estimation and analysis of BEA’s industry economic accounts, including the input-output accounts, the gross domestic product (GDP) by industry accounts, and multiple satellite accounts. These accounts are used to provide a comprehensive picture of the performance of major sectors and industries within the U.S. economy, and how these industries interact and contribute to economic growth. He is also an active participant in national and international efforts to better measure the impact of economic globalization on the U.S. economy.

Under his leadership, BEA made numerous advancements in the quality and relevance of the industry economic accounts’ statistics. These include launching quarterly GDP by industry statistics; establishing a cross-Departmental collaboration with the Bureau of Labor Statistics to better analyze the sources of GDP growth, including productivity; and enhancing time-series industry statistics through improved integration with the national income and product accounts.

He has received a number of awards for his leadership and management, including U.S. Department of Commerce Gold and Silver Medals and the Arthur S. Flemming Award for outstanding public service.

Mr. Strassner holds an MBA from the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University and an MA in economics from The George Washington University.
