New Prototypes are now available

These tables are subject to change and are not in their final format at this point.

To meet international guidelines, BEA will present tables for cross-border trade in new formats in next year’s version of the annual international services article to be published in October 2014. For more discussion about these changes see the “Improving the International Services Statistics” section in Alexis Grimm and Charu Sharma “U.S. International Services: Cross-Border Trade in 2012 and Services Supplied Through Affiliates in 2011” Survey of Current Business 93 (October 2013): 40 and Kristy L. Westmoreland “BEA Briefing: Modernizing and Enhancing BEA’s International Economic Accounts: A Progress Report and Plans for Implementation” Survey of Current Business 93 (May 2013): 44-67.

Latest changes in the statistics:

  • Updated in October 2013 in conjunction with the publication of “U.S. International Services: Cross-Border Trade in 2012 and Services Supplied Through Affiliates in 2011”.This annual article is the most detailed description and analysis of U.S. international services provided by BEA.
  • Cross-border transactions are revised for 2003-2011, and services supplied through affiliates are revised for 2010.
  • Note: There is a discontinuity between 2003 and 2004 for services supplied through affiliates. Beginning in 2004, the measure of services supplied includes the services of bank affiliates, the distributive services of wholesalers and retailers, and an improved measure of the services supplied by insurers. For more information, see the "Revisions and Improvements" section in Jennifer Koncz-Bruner and Anne Flatness “U.S. International Services: Cross-Border Trade in 2008 and Services Supplied Through Affiliates in 2007” Survey of Current Business 89 (October 2009): 37.
