Per capita retirement and other

Retirement and other consists mostly of retirement and disability insurance benefit payments, medical payments, and veterans benefit payments. Retirement and other is computed as total transfer payments excluding income maintenance and unemployment insurance benefit payments.

This measure of income is divided by the resident population of the area. In computing per capita retirement and other, BEA uses the Census Bureau's annual midyear population estimates.
