Taxes on production and imports (millions of current dollars)

Taxes on production and imports (TOPI) consist of tax liabilities, such as general sales and property taxes, that are chargeable to business expense in the calculation of profit-type incomes. Also included are special assessments.

TOPI is the sum of state and local TOPI -- which is primarily nonpersonal property taxes, licenses, and sales and gross receipts taxes -- and Federal TOPI, which is composed of excise taxes on goods and services.
