Mauricio Ortiz is Associate Director for Regional Economics at the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
Mr. Ortiz is responsible for the production of all subnational economic statistics, including gross domestic product and personal income by state, county, and metropolitan area, and regional economic multipliers. He has served for more than 25 years as an economist in BEA's regional program. In 2012, Mr. Ortiz became chief of the Regional Income Division, in charge of the estimation of BEA's subnational statistics of GDP, personal income, personal consumption expenditures, and employment. He led the introduction of GDP statistics for every U.S. county and several other expansions of BEA's regional statistics. For three years, Mr. Ortiz served as chief of the branch responsible for the non-compensation portions of regional personal income estimates. Before that, he worked on the compensation portions of personal income.
Mr. Ortiz earned a bachelor's degree in economics from George Mason University and a master's degree in economics from Virginia Tech.
