Information on 2026 Annual Updates to the National, Industry, State, and County Statistics

With improvements in concurrent production of BEA statistics, the 2026 annual updates of national, industry, and regional data will begin on the same day for the first time: September 30, 2026. The annual update of the National Economic Accounts (NEAs) includes gross domestic product (GDP), gross domestic income, GDP by industry, and related statistics in the National Income and Product Accounts (NIPAs) and the Industry Economic Accounts. The update of the Regional Economic Accounts includes GDP by state and by county, personal income by state and by county, and related statistics. Improvements incorporated as part of the annual updates impact all three sets of accounts. The reference year for index numbers and chained-dollar estimates remains 2017.

Update Archive

The open period for revisions for this year’s NEA annual update is the first quarter of 2021 through the first quarter of 2026.

Results

On the day of the release, BEA will post a table relating current-dollar revisions to the major source data incorporated and conceptual changes for the major components of GDP, national income, and personal income. Additionally, an article describing the update in more detail will be published in the Survey of Current Business shortly after its release.

Table changes

Several weeks before the release, BEA will post a template showing presentational changes to the NIPA Interactive Data Application tables resulting from the update. Updated flat files for the NIPA series and table registers will also be forthcoming.

The schedule of planned data availability will be posted several weeks before the release of the update.
