The Bureau of Economic Analysis is streamlining our news release packages to reduce duplication and make it easier to find the information you need.
We have phased out news release highlights, which began years ago as abbreviated one-page documents for delivery by fax. The highlights mostly repeated news release content. In some cases, such as U.S. Personal Income and Outlays, extra elements like charts previously included in the highlights are being added into the news releases.
BEA discontinued the highlights with news releases for state and local statistics last September and has extended the change to international and national news releases this month, as announced last year.
In addition to highlights, the U.S. gross domestic product package has traditionally included technical notes published as a separate document. Technical notes now appear as part of the news release, beginning today with Gross Domestic Product, 4th Quarter 2024 and Year 2024 (Advance Estimate).
To aid data users, BEA is adding technical notes to the monthly personal income and outlays news releases, beginning with Friday’s release of December data.
The updates to our news releases improve efficiency at BEA and offer readers a more convenient, intuitive way to find information and charts in one place.
The data tables included in the GDP and personal income and outlays news packages remain unchanged – you can still find them in the “Full Release & Tables” file in the related materials. More data related to those and other BEA news releases is in our Interactive Data tables.
